The Chelyabinsk Meteor: Separating Fact From Fiction

Almost as soon as footage of this extraordinary event hit the internet, so too did the conspiracy theories...

"This has all the earmarks of a false flag event."
"It wasn't a meteor at all, it was a secret weapons test."
"I think it was a top secret satellite crashing back to earth."
"The meteor was 10 times lower than what we've been told, that town should have been vaporized!"

Everyone please take a deep breath and calm down. This was an unprecedented event to be sure, but nothing more or less than a meteor strike, albeit a rather large one.

Just the Facts, Please

NASA, NORAD and the Russian Federal Space Agency have all verified the facts and figures of this meteor: it was approximately 56 feet in diameter and weighed around 10,000 tons--likely a nickle-iron meteorite with an extremely high density. This meteor and it’s effects–by the numbers–makes perfect scientific sense. The physical effects of a 500 kiloton blast at 90,000 feet would look and feel exactly as it did. It seemed lower than it was in the video because it was so intensely burning. The size of the pocket of superheated, ionized gas around the shock boundary was many times larger than the object itself. The human eye simply wouldn’t be able to detect an object 56′ in diameter (stationary or moving) at 90,000 feet, but something burning up at potentially Mach 57 (44,000 mph) is quite another story. Even if the actual entry speed turned out to be half that speed, it's still devastatingly fast.

Why Didn't a Blast 30x Larger Than Hiroshima Vaporize Everything?

Take a look at footage from “Operation Grapple X” where the UK detonated a series of hydrogen bombs over Christmas Island in the late 1950′s. Grapple X mk2 was 1.8 megatons detonated at only 8,000 feet (asl) over land and within 20 miles of 1,200 troops standing out in the open. They were hit with a shock wave that knocked a few people off their feet accompanied by an earth shattering bang (as you can see and hear in the footage). There was naturally some damage to structures on the island directly beneath the blast, but nothing was leveled or vaporized, and we’re talking about a blast 3 times larger and 8x lower in altitude than this meteor was. Keep in mind that this meteor was also traveling at an extraordinary speed, so the shock wave is actually conical as it’s impacting the ground. Even the initial largest blast wave would still be affected by the forward momentum of the object. The Tunguska shock wave was later found to have impacted the ground in the shape of a butterfly due to it’s angle of trajectory.

An animation of the meteor's trajectory and breakup has been produced, courtesy of Analytical Graphics, and it recently came to light that Meteosat-9 also managed to capture the atmospheric explosion from space. A joint venture of the European Space Agency and the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites Meteosat-9 was launched in 2005 to keep watch on Earth's weather from space. The satellite also took video of the fireball.

Image by Stefan Greens | ogleearth.com

Stefan Greens over at ogleearth.com put together a fantastic reconstruction of the path of the meteor using Google Earth, YouTube and high-school math. He even used light shadows from the streetlamp poles in Revolution Square to back-trace the trajectory. I highly recommend checking out the article.

Could it Have Been a Satellite?

There is absolutely no way this was a satellite or man-made object because of two very important factors:

1) Mass. The largest satellite in orbit (aside from the Hubble) is the NRO’s L-32 spysat which tips the scales at 5,200 kg or 5.5 tons (estimated). Even the International Space Station (440 tons) doesn't come anywhere close to matching the sheer density of this meteor. Besides, if something we put in orbit was going to catastrophically deorbit above Russia, I'm pretty certain everyone would be warned ahead of time. Mistakes like that start world wars. Interestingly, there seems to be some discrepancy over the actual weight of this bolide. Russian scientists say the meteor weighed about 10 tons before it entered the Earth's atmosphere, and broke apart 30–50 km (20–30 miles) above ground level. NASA estimated the diameter of the bolide at about 17 meters and its mass at about 10,000 tons. Since NASA likely had input from other sources--namely NORAD--I'll stick with their estimation for the time being, but it's still open to debate as far as I'm concerned. Looking at the relative visual sizes of these objects it wouldn't seem like you could cram the entire density of a warship into an object exponentially smaller, but it's entirely possible when you're talking about an iron-nickel meteor. Have you ever picked up a baseball-sized meteor and held it in your hand? I have, and it was deceivingly, freakishly heavy.

2) Velocity. A satellite re-entering the atmosphere would do so from orbital velocity which is about one-quarter of the speed at which this meteor was traveling, nor would there be a massive explosion and concussive shock wave like this. That blast was from the sheer density of the object. It may have only been 56 feet in diameter, but it weighed more than a Ticonderoga class missile cruiser! When you put size and density into perspective it's easy to see how a 10,000 ton rock hurtling through the atmosphere at 44,000 mph could result in a 500 kiloton blast.

Finally, there were actual pieces of the rock that impacted earth along with evidence of those impact points, one of which was in a nearby frozen lake. Russian authorities have already begun the hunt to find any remaining fragments of the meteor, which are extremely valuable not only to scientific study, but from a monetary standpoint as well.

For the sake of contrast, here's footage of a Russian military communications satellite Meridian-5 deorbiting over the city of Novosibirsk after a failed launch attempt (note the speed):

But it Looked So Much Lower to the Ground in the Videos!

The visual evidence we have to go on is based upon Russian dashcams and security camera footage, which are mediocre at best, but can still provide us with some valuable data. For instance, the speed can be fairly accurately measured based upon it's transit speed across the sky and height relative to the ground. In the video footage it certainly seems to be much closer to the ground than 90,000 feet, but it's quite deceiving because of the sheer intensity of the burn. We also know it's relative altitude based upon the time it took for the sound of the shockwave to reach the ground, which was just over a minute. Sound (at sea level) travels at approximately 1,115 feet per second. Based upon, let's say 80 seconds, well that works out to 89,200 feet. In the grand scheme of things, that's not very high at all.

To put things into perspective, the Tunguska event--which was most likely a comet fragment--exploded only 6 miles (31,000 feet) above ground level with the force of nearly 30 megatons and as we know that blast knocked down an estimated 80 million trees over an area covering 2,150 square kilometres (830 square miles). It is estimated that the shock wave from the blast would have measured 5.0 on the Richter scale. To see an excellent visual representation of what this event may have looked like, check out Don Davis' 100th anniversary commemorative illustration here. An explosion of this magnitude is capable of destroying a large metropolitan area. If the Chelyabinsk meteor had exploded at that height we would have certainly seen much more widespread damage and likely more fragments actually impacting the ground.

If it Looks, Sounds and Acts Like a Meteor--It's Probably a Meteor

I think this was just what it was–a meteor strike over a populated area. Nothing more, nothing less. There are an estimated 5-10 meteors of this size which strike Earth every couple months but the vast majority of them are over oceans or polar regions where they go unnoticed by the population. I find it quite extraordinary to have actually witnessed something like this in our lifetime.

There will always be extraordinary conspiracy theories surrounding extraordinary natural events, but they also require extraordinary evidence to back them up. This wasn't a wayward UFO, it wasn't a military experiment gone awry, nor was it one of the Decepticons coming from the dark side of the moon. Chelyabinsk will go down in the history books as one of the most well documented cases of a meteor strike on record and we should all be thrilled to have seen such an astronomical treat as it unfolded in real time.

Eyeballing the Nevada Test Range Part 1: Area 51 & S-4

Overview of the area we'll be discussing in Part 1 (above)

We've reached a point in our society where anyone with an internet connection and a web browser can play armchair satellite imagery analyst. Google Earth and the availability of high quality, relatively inexpensive commercial imagery has empowered a new generation of online explorers. How many of us have gotten lost in Google Earth for countless hours? The world has been revealed to all of us and personally I can't imagine what we ever did without it.

But not everyone is thrilled about such transparency in the public eye. There are countless articles about the US government requesting the censorship of certain sensitive areas, mostly military installations and key buildings and facilities in Washington DC. Sometimes it's hard to follow the government's logic on what gets censored and what doesn't. For instance, the ultra secret Mount Weather underground bunker outside Washington which would serve as a continuity of government facility in the event of a nuclear war can be clearly explored in satellite imagery. However, the roof structure details of the White House have quite obviously been digitally obscured. Area 51--a facility that officially doesn't exist--is there for the world to see and it's even been recently updated, yet we're not allowed to see Dick Cheney's digs! The guys over at IT Security have compiled a list of 51 other things we're not allowed to see on Google Earth, worth checking out.

The Desert Holds Many Secrets

Since The Object Report is first and foremost about full disclosure, I decided it might be interesting to do a multi-part piece on one of the most secretive areas in the world: the Nevada Test Range, an area encompassing 4,687 square miles and the largest military range in the northern hemisphere. This range includes the Groom Lake facility, aka: Area 51, as well as the Yucca Flats nuclear test range, Rainer Mesa underground nuclear test facility and the lesser known Tonopah flight research facility. Together these facilities form what was previously known as the Nellis Air Force Range (NAFR), but in 2001 it was renamed to the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR). NTTR borders (on three sides) the Department of Energy's Nevada Test Site; between them the two complexes control much of the land in southern Nevada. NTTR is operated from Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas. The National Wildhorse Management Area is entirely enclosed inside the NTTR, and much of the eastern section of the NTTR overlaps with the Desert National Wildlife Refuge.

Peeking at "The Ranch"

No military facility has historically garnered as much attention as the base that doesn't exist: Area 51. Much like the Roswell story, it has become iconic in Ufology lore over the past two decades thanks in part to the testimony of Robert Lazar, a physicist employed by the US military to help reverse-engineer 'foreign technology' they had acquired. If you're not familiar with Lazar's story, I highly recommend exploring his entire detailed backstory here. Regardless of what your stance on Lazar's claims are, there's no doubt the facility exists and we can only speculate about what kind of exotic hardware is being tested there. I won't delve too much further into Area 51 because there's already plenty of great information and analysis available on the web. I would just like to point out a few key items that I find interesting.

Note: I suggest clicking the "view full size image" link for each of these, I wanted to keep these very large and detailed for the sake of this article. Each image should open in a new browser window.

Groom Lake Facility Closeup, Northern Hangars (37°14'41.64" N 115°48'53.23" W) - View full size image here
Zooming in on the northern portion of the air base we can see the four main hangars. Contrary to popular Area 51 folklore, these are not "massive" hangars with "two hundred foot tall doors" that some researchers have speculated. They're approximately 220' long by 130' wide and maybe 60-70' tall at best. You'd have to shear a couple feet off the wingtips of a C-130 Hercules to cram it into one of these hangars. Note the distances between them and the amount of room on the concrete apron surrounding them--nothing overly large is going in and out of these hangars.

Groom Lake Facility Closeup - Janet 737's (37°14'20.72" N 115°48'44.22" W) - View full size image here

Moving south through the base we see a couple Janet flights parked on the tarmac (above). "Janet" is the de facto name for a small fleet of passenger aircraft operated for the United States Air Force. Their aircraft transport military and contractor employees and currently serve mostly the Nevada National Security Site (most notably Area 51) from their terminal at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport. The origin of the term "Janet" is obscure and, while it is used as a radio callsign, it is not known whether it is an official name, code word or acronym. Currently, the Janet fleet consists of six Boeing 737-600s painted white with a prominent red cheatline. There are also five smaller executive turboprops (two Beechcraft 1900s and three Beechcraft 200Cs) painted white with less prominent blue trim stripes. One of these turboprops can be seen in the satellite image above.

Groom Lake Facility Closeup - Central Hangar (37°14'09.36" N 115°48'47.47" W) - View full size image here

Centrally situated is a larger 'drive-through' hangar (above) which can accommodate larger aircraft than the first four. You could tuck a C-17 Globemaster into this hangar very comfy, possibly even a C-5 Galaxy if you greased up the wingtips, but it would be quite the squeeze. Granted, do all aircraft really need to be inside hangars while at Area 51? Probably not...but for anything classified it would certainly be the norm. I'd be pretty surprised if Russia and China didn't have eyes in the sky that routinely peek at this facility.

Groom Lake South Hangar Closeup (37°13'44.31" N 115°48'38.72" W) - View full size image here

At the far south side of the base sits the newest hangar, a 350' wide, 185' deep beast large enough to swallow everything but the largest aircraft. A C-5 Galaxy is 247' long, so keep in mind that the tail section would still poke outside the doors. I keep bringing up dimensions here because none of these hangars (at least what we're allowed to see) is large enough to accommodate some ultra exotic football-field sized craft which, it has been speculated, operate from Groom Lake. I simply don't see any giant black delta's that are 300' on a side being safely stashed away here.

Groom Lake South Hangar Under Construction (37°13'44.31" N 115°48'38.72" W) - View full size image here

This newest hangar began construction around October/November of 2006 (above), and I would like to point out that there does not seem to be any indication of a recessed sub floor or any machinery that would indicate an underground storage area or elevator. It has been hypothesized that some of these hangars have elevators which can lower aircraft into a secret underground level. That may still be true, but I would venture to guess that the US government is far too busy to spend time photoshopping their various new construction projects to conceal details such as these. In the time it takes someone to notice it, the construction project is already done and the imagery has been updated.

Eyeballing Tips & Tricks

When investigating remote locations such as these facilities within the NTTR you should follow a few basic rules which can help you discover various points of interest:
  • Always follow the paved highways to see where they lead. Often they'll connect one large facility to another. It's inadvisable to transport sensitive equipment and materials (like nukes) across a washboard dirt road for dozens of miles.
  • Look for maintenance facilities filled with heavy equipment such as bucket loaders, diggers and graders, this usually points to a nearby excavation or new construction project.
  • Sewage ponds are a telltale sign of long term habitation, especially in the desert.
  • Make use of Google's timeline slider bar. Comparing older satellite imagery to the latest imagery can yield interesting results. You'll be able to determine if a particular location has been worked on recently or whether it has changed over time in an unnatural way.

Groom Lake, West access road (37°14'43.72" N 115°50'11.58" W) - View full size image here
Heading west out of the Groom Lake base leads us to several other interesting locations, most notably the elusive Area S-4 which was popularized by Bob Lazar in the early 90's as the ultra classified location where he worked on reverse engineering alien spacecraft. But before we get to that, let's take a look at something else interesting on the way to S-4...

Unidentified site 7 miles WSW of Groom Lake (37°12'03.48" N 115°55'40.56" W) - View full size image here

This unknown facility located about 7 miles WSW of Groom Lake has existed as far back as June of 2002 but it has since been expanded to roughly double it's original size. What this excavation site represents is still murky at best, all we know is that it involves at least two tunnels large enough to drive a tractor trailer truck into. Interestingly enough, the entrances to the tunnels do not seem to be heavily trafficked as evidenced by the lack of heavy tire tracks into them.

Area S-4: The Phantom Installation?

Note: If you aren't already familiar with the Bob Lazar story, I highly recommend you read that first and then come back here. Go ahead, I'll wait...

Okay, so now that you know there is supposed to be an ultra secret facility comprised of 9 hangars built into the side of a ridge spine on the east side of Papoose Dry Lake, let's take a closer look at this very controversial location. We'll start with an overview of the entire range to put things into better perspective:

Range overview for perspective (37°14'07.00" N 115°41'51.54" W) - View full size image here
According to Lazar's detailed descriptions of his trips to Area S-4 the most logical location would be Papoose dry lake. He described his 20 minute rides in a bus with blacked-out windows as being mostly on a dirt road which then turned to a flat, dry lake bed which was "approximately 15 miles south of Area 51."  Well, Papoose lake certainly fits the bill. Unfortunately for all of us armchair satellite analysts we've never managed to find evidence of the facility. There are a few tantalizing clues that lead us to believe that vehicles do visit Papoose, but nothing concrete. Yet...

Papoose Lake overview (37°06'59.29" N 115°50'38.44" W) - View full size image here

It would make sense that when crossing the dry, hard lake bed any tire tracks would be minimally visible and whatever does show up would be periodically blown away by wind and/or washed away by rains. That caramel colored area in the upper portion of the lake bed is from a recent accumulation of rainwater, so using it to drive on would actually make sense.

But what really makes things difficult is that there is literally ZERO visual evidence of any base being at this location. There isn't even any evidence of tampering with the imagery--no blurring, cloning, patching....nothing. When you think about the fact that this imagery is updated every couple years or so that means IF the image is being obscured they're doing one hell of a good job.

Take a look at this time-lapse animation that spans 2006 to 2011:

4 frame time-lapse of the area where the S-4 facility is allegedly located: 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011.

I've worked in and around the field of image analysis for quite awhile, and I see no evidence of anything here now or having been here in the past. This leads me to a few possible conclusions about S-4:
  1. Lazar was wrong about the location.
  2. It's been obscured with some of the best image censoring on the planet.
  3. It was there at one point but no longer is.
  4. It never existed to begin with.
I think we'd all love to see something like this on Google Earth, but I'm afraid that's never going to happen...

In the next part of this Eyeballing series I'm going to cover everything from nuclear materials burial operations to the newly renovated Yucca Flats airstrip to the little-known Rainer Mesa facility. The desert holds many secrets indeed, and we've just gotten started...

Special Report Update: Dramatic Increase in Black Triangle Sightings Across the Country

Something is definitely going on. We've had nearly 100 reported sightings of enormous, silent black triangles from 21 different states, plus Canada in November and December alone. I feel it's necessary to run a follow up piece to my recent article about these craft because we're quite obviously in a full-on Big Black Triangle Flap...

Our friend Roger Marsh over at The Examiner has done a wonderful job of collecting recent eyewitness reports of these craft from MUFON and NUFORC among other sources, a few of which I'll discuss in a moment.

But first, let's look at some facts and figures regarding the black triangle phenomenon:
  • A quick search of the MUFON sightings database sorting by 'shape' (triangle) and 'color' (black) yields 50 reports just in the past two months alone.
  • Looking at the NUFORC sightings database I chose July--being the month with the highest number of reports for the year at 905--and personally counted 106 'silent black triangle' reports. That's a pretty dramatic percentage when you really think about it, basically one out of every 9 ufo sightings is of a silent black triangle.
  • From 1981-1985, a wave of huge black triangular craft sightings swept through the Hudson River Valley. It is perhaps one of the best cases on record with over 7,000 eyewitness reports, many of whom were aerospace engineers, cops, executives, scientists, and other qualified observers.
  • During the Belgian wave of black triangle sightings from 1989-1990 there were over 5,000 reported UFO sightings, and of that 5,000 over 2,000 were specifically of black triangular craft.

Major increase in sightings near cities, not just rural areas.

It's 2012, and judging by the number of eyewitness accounts in the past two months alone, it looks to me like we're in the midst of another wave of black triangle and giant boomerang sightings. Let's take a closer look at some of the more recent reports.

December 4, 2012, 7:30 pm, Germantown, MD - Large triangular shaped object large red lights on each point. Case 44324.
I was driving in my car going home on Warfield Road between Germantown and Olney just by rt 124. I noticed just over the tree line a slow large moving object. It had very bright white and green lights. It appeared the width of the craft was coming toward me. Id say the lights were about 100 or more feet wide with the green lights interspersed. I stopped my car and watched the object fly over me. It had 3 large circular red lights on the bottom about twice the size of a pitching mound. Each of three lights had a very ornate metal structure covering them which was easy to see the details on the bottom. The red lights werent glowing at all on the bottom. It seemed like a very heavy object yet it flew over me without a sound, without wind or turbulence of any kind. You could just make out the triangular shape given my vantage point, it was a very dark evening. What impressed me most are the red circles on the bottom. These circles did protrude, kind of like a contact lense but not so extreme.
Take special note of the line I highlighted in red because this relates directly to another recent triangular craft sighting on the opposite side of the country...

September 2, 2012, at 3:52 am, Black Diamond, Washington - Gregory McManus, Power Line Machinist: (source: Earthfiles.com)
“(That early morning of September 2, 2012, at 3:52 AM,) the next door neighbor’s dog started barking and it was a different bark – almost an intimidated bark. It kind of alarmed me. I turned on the outside lights and looked down the driveway. I didn’t see anything, so I turned off the outside lights and went around to the front door and walked out onto the porch. I could see the next door neighbor’s driveway and his garage through the trees. And I heard my neighbor tell the dog to be quiet. Normally, he’ll quiet right down, but this time he still made a growl and a woof and did not quiet down. So I thought that quite strange.

Then through the trees right across the street over my neighbor’s house came this orange glow. And then in just a flash, it became quite bright and started to move from south to north directly over my neighbor’s house. It came into a clearing in the trees approximately 200 feet off the ground.
Computer illustration © 2012 by Greg McManus  Source: Earthfiles.com
I would estimate the size of the equilateral triangle craft was about 100 feet corner to corner. It consisted of seven equal-sized, bright, red-orange globes, like a glass ball with a bright orange flame inside – not moving around – just this constant orange color. The six outer globes that made up the edges of the triangular craft were each encapsulated in a “cage” similar to what you would see in the stitching of a soccer ball’s hexagonal shapes. Then in the center was one of the orange globes that did not have any type of cage around it at all.
You can read the rest of this fascinating eyewitness account on Linda Moulton-Howe's website, Earthfiles. I just wanted to point out the fact that this craft had a metallic, mechanical element to the underside of it just like the witness from Maryland described. I think this is an interesting and important correlation to keep in mind.

September 16, 2012, 9:10 p.m., Jacksonville, FL - moved in a path slowly. Case 44317

I was in my car headed west on I-10 and i was just looking around and i saw some lights in a triangle formation and one beam of light that appeared to scan the area, as it got closer it appeared to be a solid triangular craft about 50 feet across, i saw two more of these craft within 5 mins. approximately 2 mins later i saw a fourth triangular craft about 1/4 mile in size with lights on all corners and a light scanning the area turning sharply, after it went out of view i grabbed a notebook and wrote down the dimensions of each craft, location, and time the event occurred.
Oh boy, either the military keeps losing something and sending out massive black triangular craft to search for whatever it is, or these aren't military craft at all. I feel this witness may have a little trouble judging lengths and distances because one craft 50 feet in diameter next to a second craft that's a "quarter mile" in diameter would look like a helicopter next to Mount Rushmore, nothing like their drawing. Again, I think in the excitement and adrenaline rush of the moment people tend to have exaggerated perceptions when it comes to size, distance and even time. But the point to make about this particular sighting is the fact that it was near I-10 which is a heavily trafficked major highway.

November 30, 2012, 4:25 a.m., Raytown, MO - Black Triangle object with three pulsating lights and one center light. Case 44259
I was on my way to work on November 30, 2012 at 4:25 am. As I turned the corner down the road a huge black triangle object flying low, maybe twice tree top level came over my street moving north east. The object was moving very slow and as it crossed over the street and my car it stopped just above the house on the east side of the street and hovered. The object was black, darker than the night sky with the exception of three very bright pulsating lights at each corner and a large bright center light. The lights changed colors but did not appear to have any pattern to the movement. The object was absolutely huge. It easily covered the entire house and then some. I rolled my window down to take a picture and video with my cell phone but could not get it to come on. So I quickly made a sketch of what I was seeing on a receipt that I had in my car. The object started to move slowly and when I went to try and get my cell phone to work again and I looked up and the object was gone. There was no engine noise what so ever and it was just gone.

Interesting detail to note with this case is that the lighting pattern differs from other eyewitness testimony. The three corner lights were pulsating and changing colors instead of maintaining the typical steady, unblinking bluish-white glow. This brings us back to a point I made in my previous article which is why would these lighting patterns be so over the top with shifting colors and "stadium lights" as some witnesses have described them? It makes no logical sense and goes against everything the military goes out of their way to avoid.

Speaking of non-FAA regulation lighting, take a look at this report from October 10th, 2012 - 1:43 am, Davis, CA: "(GS) Investigating a sound, went outside and saw triangle craft slowly pass overhead. It hovered on the horizon."  Luckily for us, this eyewitness managed to grab some video which--although not crystal clear--is still quite good because it depicts this insane navigational lighting pattern. Click here to see the MP4 video.

Finally, reports such as the next one are what really give credence to this entire phenomenon. On January 15th, 1993 a Texas State Trooper, two truckers and another female bystander witnessed up close and personal a massive black triangle near a highway. The level of detail given in this report by a trained observer is nothing short of excellent.

Location: Canadian, TX
Source: NUFORC database
It was triangular in shape, massive in size and eerily quiet.

I was a State Trooper working the night shift and was patrolling US83 south of Canadian, TX. It was around 10:30PM local time.

I always had a citizens band radio on and had been listening to two truck drivers enjoying a conversation. It was an unusually warm evening for a winter night and I was wearing short sleeves and had the car window cracked a bit as I slowly patrolled northbound.

As this is the Texas panhandle area, the land is fairly flat, but with some rolling hills every so often. I could see the two trucks ahead of me and all three of us were driving north. The two trucks were approximately 1 - 1.5 miles ahead of me. As we neared the Washita Creek bridge on US83, the road dipped down into a little valley.

I lost sight of the trucks as they dipped lower than me. One of the drivers was talking away when he suddenly stopped and said "What the hell is that"? I heard the second driver say "What are you...oh hell!".

The radio was silent for a few seconds and then I heard the second trucker say "I nearly ran into you when you stopped. Are you pulling over?" To which the other trucker said "Hell yes...I want to see it".

By this time I was starting down the incline toward the creek and I could see one truck stopped and on the side of the road and the other pulling past it to park in front of it. I still didn't know what they were talking about but started slowing down.

I crossed the bridge and at that point I saw the driver of the truck just in front of me standing in the middle of US83. He was looking west and upward. This was the first time that I realized a very bright light was shining onto the ground from what appeared to be a very large dark object which seemed to be about 1,000 feet in the air and maybe a mile and a half away.

I remember thinking this because I'd been down the dirt road that runs from this location west and was fairly familiar with the topography here...and I could make out it was over another hill. I was afraid I'd be run over from behind so I started to park my patrol car on the shoulder beside the first truck.

I could see the second driver running to the first one and pointing at the object. At this point, a small passenger car topped the hill just north of us and started slowing down...probably from seeing the two trucks and my car parked there. But as the car passed by I saw the brake lights come on and the car slightly screeched to a stop right in the middle of the south-bound lane.

There was a female driver and she stepped out of her car, right foot still inside but standing outside the car, and was looking at the object. I asked her to quickly move out of the road. She turned to me and said "What is that?" I told her I didn't know, but to please move. She did so quickly and then came back to us.

Now there were the two truckers, the lady and myself standing on the shoulder of the southbound lane. I couldn't hear a sound from the craft but could see a immensely bright beam of light shining straight down. The light didn't sway back and forth like a search light or anything...it just shone straight down. Suddenly I was aware of the fact that the object appeared to be moving toward us very slowly. This was because I realized the sheer dimensions of the craft.

It was a moonless night..or as best as I can remember it was moonless. Thousands of stars in a totally black sky made it very easy to see that the object was indeed moving toward us. It was triangular in shape. That was obvious almost from the start. The point was forward as if you'd imagine a triangle being mobile and one of the points being the front of the object. (I hope that makes sense)

There was absolutely no sound coming from the craft. Not even a whisper.

I realized no one was talking...I think we were completely confounded by what we were seeing. After around five minutes, the object had gotten to a point that I felt it was within a mile of us. I still had the strong sensation that it was higher above us than it appeared. That's when the bright light simply shut off and it was easier to see the outline of the craft.

The mere size of the craft was incredible. If my references are even near what I think they are, I'd estimate the size of the craft to be at least 1000' per side. It was massive. The reason I use this word is two fold. One is from the dimensions of it. But the other is this. As the craft neared being almost directly over us, I remember feeling weight....felt something heavy on me. It also seemed as if there was a haze around the object...just barely off of the surface that seemed to make the stars near the edge flicker before they were occulted by the object itself.

I also remember realizing I was holding my breath.

And although we couldn't hear anything, one of the truckers said, "Do y'all feel that?" It felt as though everything, the road, the air, us...everything seemed to be vibrating.

Up to this point, I don't think what I felt was fear....just amazement. But when the craft was directly over us, something happened. I was staring straight up at it, and I remember at this point that the women started sobbing and ran away to her car. She left before I ever said another word to her.

The object was black. Much blacker than the sky. This may have been an illusion from all the stars in the background, but it was darker to me. But as I looked up, I suddenly saw a circle appear...just forward of what would be the center of the object. This circle didn't light up. It became darker...as if there was absolutely no light shining from it or reflected from it. Without a doubt it was darker than the rest of the craft.

The craft literally stopped directly above us.

One of the drivers asked me if I should call for help. I told him I didn't know what I'd say. The thought did cross my mind, but I was thinking they'd be thinking I was crazy back at the Sheriff's Office.

The craft then started pivoting above us...with the point moving clockwise in relation to me until it was pointed in a generally north-west direction. Then it began moving again. I remember hearing one of the truckers talking, but my ears felt as if they were going to pop.

Again, there wasn't a sound from it...but a tremendous feeling of weight or pressure...sort of like when you dive deeply into the water. That kind of feeling.

As the craft moved off slowly, one of the drivers said something about driving to the top of the next hill to see it more clearly. He started to turn away and at that moment the craft sped up noticeably, then shot off to the northwest in a matter of 3-4 seconds.

The drivers asked me what we should do and I told them I didn't know. I don't know what we saw, what we experienced. One of the drivers, the one that said he wanted to see it from the hilltop, ran to his truck and drove north. I ran to my patrol car and got in, passed him on the way north and pulled over at the top of the rise.

We all got out again but couldn't see anything. I remember my ears were ringing like mad. Looking back, I think this was side effects of an adrenaline rush. I've been in shootings, high-speed pursuits and numerous other tension-filled moments and I always have that reaction.

After some time, we all got in our vehicles and left. I went straight home. I undressed and took a shower. I still could see the object in my mind...and am absolutely convinced about the darker circle inside the craft. I

then sat down at my desk in the study and sketched out the craft on a piece of paper. I then went into my bedroom where my wife was asleep.

As I lay down, she rolled over to kiss me goodnight but stopped and asked "Have you been fighting a grass fire or something?" I said no and asked why. She told me I smelled like burned grass or hair. I told her what I'd seen just an hour earlier. She knew I was sincere.

The next morning, I got out of bed and walked into the bathroom. As I looked in the mirror, I saw that my face looked like I had a very light sunburn. Not deep red...just a little blushed. I looked down and most of the hair on both arms looked as if I'd been synged with a flame.

I called my wife and she came in and gasped at how I looked. We looked in the bed and there was a mass of burned hair on my pillow and the sheets. I say burned...I mean it was very brittle and it and I still smelled like I'd been fighting a fire.

That was 12 years ago. I still see it in my mind and I sometimes dream about it. I've never told anyone other than my dearest and most trusted friends. I have no doubt that what I saw was real. I have no doubt that it was huge, it was manned, and it was being intelligently operated. I'm not assuming anything...that it was an alien craft, a military craft or whatever. But what I saw moved with great stealth when I first saw it and was able to reach an unbelievably high speed in the blink of an eye.

So...as you're reading this, you may think I'm nuts. But this is the single-most bizarre thing I've ever experienced, and I'm absolutely convinced it was real.
NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that date of sighting is approximate. We have responded to the report, and hope to be able to communicate with the witness in greater detail about the incident. PD.

Different configurations, different sizes, different lighting patterns. Are we seeing completely different craft?

The sheer variety of shapes, sizes, lighting patterns and configurations begs the question of whether we're seeing totally different craft. Are they from the same source, be it military or extraterrestrial? Or both? That's a great question that we still haven't managed to answer. So let's assume for the moment that ALL of these craft are of military origin. Then that leads us to several conclusions, none of which are very logical:
  • The military decided that just ONE type of enormous, silent black triangular craft with a bizarre lighting pattern wasn't enough for their needs, so they had 4 or 5 other aerospace manufacturers build 5 or 6 different type of triangular craft to carry out roughly the same mission.
  • Some of these craft are prototypes or proof-of-concept vehicles which are being flight tested in advance of building the final production variant.
  • There are dozens of these craft based out of dozens of different Air Force bases throughout the country, and not a single person within the military has ever leaked even the smallest bit of information about them in decades? No flight line mechanic has ever told his wife or girlfriend that he changed a tire on a black triangle the size of a football field? No airbase ATC controller has ever mentioned to a friend in a bar that he or she was part of the engineering team on a craft that made the Space Shuttle look like a Cessna?
  • No Air Force pilot has EVER discussed their involvement in such a program with anyone, family or otherwise. I find this terribly difficult to believe.
  • Sightings of these craft began in the early 1980's and have continued with more or less visibility for the past 30+ years. Thirty years.
I'm not buying it, and anyone with half an analytical mind isn't buying it either. Yes, the military is widely known to operate black budget craft in secrecy until such time as they need to start operating in the open. This was true of the SR-71 Blackbird, the F-117 Nighthawk and the B-2 Spirit. More recently the public became aware of a stealth variant of the Blackhawk helicopter which crashed during the raid on Osama Bin Laden. That was quite a nice surprise because it came totally out of left field, nobody expected it. But when you really think about it, it makes total sense that there would be a stealth helo in the military arsenal. The RAH-66 Comanche laid the ground work and when that program was cancelled do you really think any of that technology went to waste? Certainly not. But a helicopter is easy to hide. It easily fits in the belly of a C-5 or C-17 and can be operated under the cover of darkness. It's much, much harder to hide a black triangle the size of a C-5!

Maybe they're ours, maybe they're not. Either way, we should care.

If they're ours, then they are more likely the type of craft described by Dennis Bossack in my previous article on this topic. I may be going out on a limb to say they're not of this earth, but the facts simply don't stack up here. This phenomenon is being witnessed by people across the country in both rural and, more recently, heavily populated areas. The last thing you want to do with a top secret piece of military hardware is draw attention to it with stadium spotlights searching the ground, multi-colored strobe lights, and in some cases even brightly lit windows. It makes zero logical sense.

If the military wished to roll out a top secret new aircraft to the public, they would do so with the obligatory ceremony commemorating a new era of advanced technology celebrating the men and women who made it all possible. They did it for the B-2 in 1988, the U-2 and the SR-71 in the 60's. If there's one thing military brass loves, it's getting positive public attention for all the taxpayer dollars that went toward development. Where's the roll out of the giant black triangle and the statement that "The public will be seeing more of these in the skies and we don't want you to be alarmed..."  ??

These craft operate with total disregard as to who sees them or whether or not they're being photographed or recorded by eyewitnesses on the ground. They follow no rational pattern of behavior, sometimes they'll hover above a random house, street, movie theater or field with no rhyme or reason as to their mission or intentions.

In more and more cases, these seem to appear less like military craft and more like something else. Could this be a precursor to full disclosure? Perhaps. Could we be seeing the first cracks forming in the crust of secrecy that has surrounded this subject for nearly 70 years? Maybe... Either way, we'll continue to research this topic and hopefully uncover more information about this phenomenon in the process.

If you have experiences of your own to share, please feel free to contact us.

Giant Black Triangles: Ours or Theirs?

Note: image above is a computer generated composite used to help illustrate the content of the article.

I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't have their own theory about what these enormous "black delta" craft might be. We've all heard about them by now and these craft have become the subject of quite a few UFO documentaries, books and internet articles. A quick search of youtube yields dozens of surprisingly clear videos from multiple states, but they seem to be concentrated in Pennsylvania, New York state (the Hudson Valley region), Illinois and of course, southern California. Seeing giant delta shaped and boomerang shaped craft near Bakersfield, CA is at the very least unsurprising given the plethora of black budget aerospace companies that call the area home. However, NY, PA and IL make much less sense if these craft are indeed 'ours.'

This leads me to several important questions that anyone researching this topic should ask:

1) IF there are indeed delta craft in excess of 300 feet in diameter flying low above the heads of stunned onlookers in the Hudson Valley, where exactly are these craft based out of? Upstate NY and PA do not have any operational airbases. The nearest candidate would be Andrews, home of Air Force One. The problem here is that aside from the AF1 hangar, there aren't any hangars at Andrews capable of stowing such a craft. Additionally, the base is surrounded on all sides by residential areas including schools and neighborhoods. Not an ideal base to store an ultra secret black budget aircraft.

2) IF these craft are military in nature, WHY on earth would you fly slowly and at times treetop-level above rural areas such as Pine Bush, NY and Harrisburg, PA? This makes zero sense from a logical standpoint. The first rule of black budget aircraft is to keep them as hidden as possible. Clearly, these delta and boomerang-shaped craft have no problem being seen, and in some cases seem to intentionally draw attention to themselves.

3) WHAT is the story with the utterly insane lighting patterns and non-FAA regulation navigational lights? I can picture a craft such as this needing to pass over a rural area en route to another destination. If so, would it not make sense to go completely dark? No lighting whatsoever? A black craft in a black sky with no lights would very likely not be noticed by the average person, yet the lighting configuration of almost all of these craft go completely against the normal pattern of military thinking.

Clearly, this phenomenon isn't a figment of people's imaginations. There have been far too many sightings in far too many states by qualified eyewitnesses to dismiss this as just one craft, or a flight of daredevil ultralight pilots in formation, or a military spy blimp. Multiple police officers observed and followed this type of craft during the now infamous Highland, Illinois incident in January of 2001. There's a great deal of data available regarding this incident which I'll go into later.

So let's take a look at some possible theories...

 TR-3B "Astra"

There has been much talk of this so-called TR3B anti-gravity craft originally brought to light by the controversial Edgar Fouche. I won't go into too much detail about his credentials and questionable background, you can research that on your own here. In a nutshell, this supposedly triangular craft meets most of the criteria of a 'nearly silent, giant black delta' craft. But again, WHY would the military knowingly and willingly reveal this craft to the populace, even if it's at night, and even if it's in a rural area? Is it accidental? Is it a remotely piloted craft not responding to commands? Can you imagine the fallout if one of these craft were to crash in a populated area?  None of these possibilities make any rational sense. Furthermore, the description of this craft given by Fouche and others in the aerospace industry do not exactly match descriptions given by the eyewitness's in NY, PA, IL and CA.

Military Spy Blimp

It's no secret that the military has had a distinct need for a very large low-observability surveillance platform with a long loiter time over target. A lighter-than-air vehicle with stealth capabilities would make perfect sense, and Lockheed, Boeing and Northrup Grumman have all explored this avenue (with as yet unknown results). The only military blimp to make it into the 'white world' is the U.S. Army’s Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle (LEMV) which flew for the first time from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ on August 7th. The only problem with the airship theory is that it rules out the majority of the sightings due to the sheer speed and acceleration characteristics. A blimp cannot accelerate from a near standstill to 600+ mph "like ice on a hotplate" as one Highland, IL police officer vividly described his sighting. The slow speed and 'faint humming' sound is certainly in line with the airship theory, but the acceleration and lighting characteristics are not.

Another Type of Military Anti-Gravity Craft?

Almost all of these sightings have the earmarks of an electrogravitic craft. Extremely slow speed combined with extreme acceleration. Silent operation, aside from a low 'humming' sound. Some witnesses even describe an electrostatic charge in the atmosphere: hair standing up on their arms and heads, and even overwhelming feelings of serenity and calm which in the past have been associated with exposure to intense electromagnetic fields.

This still begs the question--why on earth would the military be flying quite possibly the most advanced piece of technology in it's inventory through the Hudson Valley, or above a series of small towns east of St. Louis? Well, in the case of the southern Illinois incident there's always the possibility that this craft was being tested out of the Boeing Phantomworks facility located at Lambert field in St. Louis, or even out of nearby Scott AFB. A close friend of mine was stationed at Scott AFB in a senior management position during the Highland sighting. I questioned this person regarding that event and they had no recollection of any unusual activity around the base at that time. Would this person have given up any details if there HAD been activity? Perhaps... or perhaps not. Regardless, the Highland incident would have been a major black eye for the military. Having multiple law enforcement officers communicating with eachother across multiple jurisdictions about an enormous, well-lighted delta shaped craft is the last thing the military--or an aerospace manufacturer--wants.

Clues to The Origin?

One possible clue to the origin of these black triangles may be found in the testimony of Dennis Bossack, a Rhode Island resident:
Dennis reports that on February 15, 1999, a triangle passed overhead heading west to east while he was driving on Route 138 north of Woodville. He lost sight of it due to the trees. A few days later, on February 20, he and his wife were sitting in their sunroom at 11:40 PM. They were watching a fox feed on bread they had put outside, when a craft appeared heading in a southerly direction. They stepped out on the porch for a closer look. Dennis states, "The craft passed over us silently, slowly, steadily and very low. The underside of it was dimly lighted by a hazy white light, thus making it possible to see the logo. The logo was a triangle edged in yellow containing the Earth being struck by two lightning bolts with the number '1' in the right hand corner. As it approached, a feeling of serenity and calm came over us making it a wonderful feeling to watch as it passed overhead. I estimate the speed of the craft at five to ten miles and hour. The size was approximately 40 feet in length and forty feet wide at the rear of the craft with the nose of the craft forming a point. The craft looked similar to a Stealth fighter, however it was a much larger plane.* The altitude of the craft was about one hundred feet, I repeat there was not a sound from the craft and it did not even create a breeze. I would appreciate any answers you might have to as what this craft is or who it belongs to." Thanks to Dennis Bossack. Editors Note: I have spent several hours on the phone interviewing Dennis who states the logo or insignia was five feet in diameter and at the front was the Omega symbol. The two lightning strikes that penetrate Earth begin at the 11 and 1 o'clock position. A similar lightning symbol was used by Roman soldiers conquering ancient Britain. The lightning strikes could infer a discharge of atmospheric electricity or perhaps intentions of colonizing Earth. We are also receiving strange communications from someone claiming to be Robert Omega. The Bossack's are respectable home owners mystified by this sighting.
*Note: The F-117 Nighthawk 65 feet in length with a 43 foot wingspan, so my guess is that Dennis' estimates on the size may have been slightly off or it may have been higher than 100 feet (which is incredibly low). When untrained observers witness something very unusual their sense of size and distance tends to be compromised. I suspect this craft was larger than 40 feet in diameter and very likely higher than 100 feet in altitude. But his detailed description of the craft's insignia is what's most important here.
Interestingly enough, his description of the insignia on this craft closely matches that of the US Space Innovation & Development Center out of Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. IF these craft are US military, then it would make sense that they are involved in space warfare and would be under the command of this division of the military.

Doing a bit more digging around I discovered several other military patches that match elements of Dennis' description, one of them (interestingly enough) being a Cadet Squadron at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. Are we starting to see a pattern of triangular shapes, lightning bolts, the globe, yellow numerals and ties to Colorado? I certainly am.

David Wilcock wrote an excellently in-depth and informative piece entitled "US Space Command: The Proof is in The Patches" which delves further into the symbology of military insignias. I highly recommend reading the article as it is truly a 'rabbit hole' worthy of falling into. We can only begin to guess at the origin and meanings behind patches such as these (note the #1 in the patch to the left). Trevor Paglen wrote a book about patches of the clandestine world which is also worth checking out.

But my main point here is that all of these elements point toward a man-made craft likely operated by the military in a space warfare/defense role. So WHY reveal these craft to people in areas of the country that make little sense? If these craft were routinely being seen in and around areas such as Nellis AFB, southern California and Tonopah, Nevada it would make perfect sense. But they're not only being seen there. Why the Hudson river valley? Why Pennsylvania? Why southern Illinois? WHY? There is a serious logic problem with all of this and it bothers me on multiple levels. These sightings make zero rational sense. Either the military has gotten extremely sloppy (unlikely) or one or more aerospace manufacturers have gotten extremely sloppy (equally unlikely).

This leaves us with our final possibility--that these craft are not military.

What if They're Not Ours?

So let's assume for the sake of this article that these craft are extraterrestrial in origin as many people believe (excluding Dennis' sighting). Well, that opens up a whole new can of worms, doesn't it? But I still question what their interest was/is in these particular areas. It could be anything.
  • Were they searching for something or someone?
  • Was this part of a sequence of abductions?
  • Were they interested in our nuclear power plants?
  • Or were they having some technical problems with no real intention of ever being spotted?
We simply don't know. But what we DO know is that these giant black triangles and enormous boomerangs don't seem to be fading into the background. In fact, they're being seen more and more not just in North America, but all over the globe. This fact alone starts to lend more credence to these things not being of earthly origin. The military has no need to spy on some kid in the countryside. Is this a system of acclimation on the part of the military if they're ours? Or conversely, visitors slowly getting people used to the idea of seeing a giant black delta craft in the skies above them? We don't have all the answers yet, but I do think we're getting closer.

Note: For further research into this topic, check out the report on "The Enigma of the Black Triangles" published by the National Institude of Discovery Sciences (NIDS) in 2004. NIDS no longer exists, but I managed to pull this report from Archive.org and placed it on the TOR server for download.

UFO Hunters: Giant Triangles (S3/E1 - Full Episode)

Very detailed eyewitness sighting of a black delta craft from an experienced pilot:

Two terrified women film a boomerang/arrowhead shaped craft flying silently and slowly above the side of a highway 60 miles north of Bakersfield, California. Very good footage from two obviously frightened witnesses. Note the background sounds from the highway and total lack of aircraft-related sounds. Download entire 16 minutes worth of footage here.

Very good video of triangular shaped craft over Murraysville, Pa in January of 2011. Murraysville was actually in the midst of a full-on UFO flap at this time:

Craft filmed in Michigan with an extremely unusual lighting pattern. Again, the eyewitness seems genuinely concerned about what it is:

ADDENDUM: Eyewitness Accounts

We received a first-hand eyewitness account of a black triangle craft up close and personal from one of our readers, Drew Hempel (he granted us permission to use his name):

So summer 1997 I'm in the living room with my sister watching X-files.  The show ends.  I saunter over to the sliding door window out to the deck.  I see lights on the horizon -- across a field -- towards the West in a rural area.  I get my sister and she gets bored and goes in.  I rule out the lights -- not a helicopter, not car headlights, not a tower light, etc.  Large spheres each a different color doing inexplicable manuevers.  Suddenly I see the lights now attached to a craft heading directly towards our land -- again from the horizon.  It is now over our neighbors' forest -- so I can see it flying slow, low just over the large oak trees.  So probably 100 feet up.

So then the craft comes onto our land -- and it flies right over the hill and over the big oak tree on the edge of our yard.  I can see the full craft -- a perfect equilateral triangle.  I could have maybe hit it with a rock but I didn't dare take my eyes off the craft.  It was slow but making a humming noise.  Lights on each corner and in the center.  It then flew over our garage and driveway and continued over the forest on our land -- slowly moving west -- out across the river valley.

This was in Minnesota in the St. Croix river valley about an hour north of the Twin Cities.  So I looked up MUFON database and I discovered about half a dozen similar sightings - one in North Minneapolis - same thing slow and low -- right in the city!!  Another was on the other side of the St. Croix in Wisconsin only the person saw the craft take over at unimaginable speed.

So then I researched it more - I read Curt Sutherly's UFO Mysteries book which has a chapter on the big black triangles and I looked into Ed Fouche's claims and I watched the doc on the Belgium sightings online....

Your article with the logo info is new to me - I'm sure this is a secret military craft.  Nick Redfern sent me his document reference of a 1952 sighting of a big black triangle craft flying off a U.S. military airforce base in the U.K.

So I think this is Tesla-Nazi type technology that was experimental after WWII and has now been mass produced.

I'm not ruling out the "gray alien" bit but the vid you posted of someone witnessing the grays and a big "oriental" e.t. guiding them -- sorry but that sounds like a bunch of bunk to me.

Anyway I look forward to this mystery being solved -- hopefully -- it is something exciting to ponder for the future to reveal.

take care,

drew hempel

p.s. feel free to repost this.

But Drew's account is only one of many. I've included several more eyewitness accounts from different states and different timeframes below. Where there's smoke, there's usually a fire... and the big black triangles aren't going away!

The following is a true and accurate account of my sighting in Seattle Washington which occurred in 1993. I believe it was in the month of November.

It was a Sunday night about 9:30. I often had occasion to be driving north about that time of evening on Sundays and I usually took the I-5 freeway. This time, however, I knew the freeway, northbound, was jammed up due to an accident. So I took an alternate route which eventually led me to what I think was East Marginal Way, right next to the main Boeing Aircraft facility in Seattle.

As I was traveling, northbound, I noticed three red lights low in the sky ahead of me and to my right. They were moving in unison, very slowly across my field of vision from east to west. At first I thought they must be the lights of a low flying plane, perhaps about to land. Then I thought, no, they must be helicopters because a plane, even if it was landing, wouldn't be moving that slowly. The trouble was, I couldn't actually see the craft or crafts that the lights were attached to.

They were, maybe, a half mile ahead of me, about 30 degrees to my right. Normally, I wouldn't have paid much attention to this because I'd been making that Sunday night drive past Boeing (although via the freeway) for twelve years. This is also not too far from the Sea-Tac Airport.

In all that time I'd seen plenty of airplanes and helicopters flying low in this area. But something was different this time. It took me a minute to realize what it was. It was the fact that the lights weren't  blinking. I thought that was odd. It seemed to me every airplane or helicopter I've ever seen flying at night had blinking lights. I squinted my eyes as I drove toward the lights, trying to see just what I was actually looking at.

Although I was now only about two blocks away from being directly under the flight path of these lights, I still could not make out what they were attached to. However, from their slow, steady movement, in unison, I was pretty sure all three of them were attached to a single object rather than being independent of each other.

By the time I was directly in line with their flight path, they were  about to enter the airspace above Boeing Field to my immediate left. At this point I was convinced it was a single, low-flying craft of some kind and I knew there was something very odd here. I pulled my car off to the side of the road and rolled down the window to get a better look. But the craft was now directly overhead so I had to get out of the car to see it.

I opened the car door and stepped out. Craning my neck to see the craft as it passed slowly directly over my head at an estimated altitude of less than 500 feet (Note: at the actual time of the sighting my impression was that the craft was perhaps only about 150 feet above me) I could see it was a gigantic black triangle. There is no other way to describe it because that's precisely what it was; a huge, black, triangle; not just
"sort of" triangular shaped, like one of those stealth jets I'd seen photos of.

It was just one big, three-sided, cookie-cutter-straight-edged, black, geometric shape; a triangle with one large, round unblinking red light at each of its three corners, flat up against the underside of the craft. There was a high, gray cloud cover that evening, subtly lit by the Seattle city lights in the distance. I could clearly and unobstructedly see the object like a huge, dense black silhouette against this gray ceiling.

I stood there almost not believing what I knew I was seeing. I actually said to myself, "Ok. What, exactly, are you seeing? You're going to want to remember every detail of this! Just the facts, now. What, exactly, do you see?" I made a mental inventory. "Black triangle. Red light on each corner, flat up against the underside of the craft. They don't blink. ...(Note: at this point it has proceeded on past me and was now over Boeing field) ...It looks like it's about seventy-five to a hundred feet above one of the main Boeing
hangars. It's moving very slowly. Maybe five miles per hour. It's heading west. It appears to be about the size of a football field."

Suddenly I realized, as I stood there in the dark on this quiet empty street, the object didn't make a sound! Maybe more than anything else, that's what made the whole thing so eerie. Something that huge, that close, moving through the air at a snail's pace should be making some kind of a sound. A hum. A rumble. Anything. But, no. It just moved across the sky like something out of a Steven Spielberg movie with the volume turned off.

I looked up and down the street to see if anyone else was witnessing this silent event, but the street was dark and empty in both directions. It occurred to me, however, that the thing had just passed directly over hundreds of cars on the freeway which was only a few miles east of where I was standing. I looked up again at the mysterious craft now blending into the dark horizon. I watched it until I couldn't see it anymore and then it was over.

I got back into my car and closed the door. The window was still open and I took another look. Nothing was there but the gray night sky, softly aglow from the distant city lights. It was as if nothing had happened. All the way home I just kept asking myself, "What the hell was that?"
I'm still wondering.
Gary Val Tenuta

I saw this object on May 5th 2010 and documented it in writing, very dark night no moon was with 5 friends and we all noticed it slowly moving towards us , I relized it wasnt a plane when there was no sound. It was slowly moving above the trees about 100-150ft off the ground, I would guess its size at about 4 or 5 football fields long and at least 8 stories thick, when it turned and went vertical on its side away from us is when I saw the size, it had large pale white lights on its corners and its belly, it lasted around 5 mins and was gone, I called the sheriffs office and they had deputies that saw it too. This happened around 10 at night in Olathe Kansas.

Me and my friend were driving back from a party in the town of George back to Mossel Bay South Africa. It was exactly 12.12 midnight Friday 24th August 2012. We saw a big, dark triangular craft hovering very low next to the N2 highway. It didn't move for at least 2 minutes and didn't hear any loud noise. It then started moving very slowly across the highway, turned and moved west over the sea picking up speed and suddenly leaped forward until it was only as bright as the evening star, but yellowish. I followed it for at least 10 minutes in the sky moving like a sattelite, but with sudden pauses and leaps of speed in between flight. The triangle seemed to have been belly up when we saw it first with bright red lights in two corners and a yellowish pulsating light in the other corner. I saw this type of craft once before in the year 2000 near Hartbeespoort dam, Pretoria, SA also around midnight. That one was much bigger with a red light in each corner and a bright white light shining down in the ground....a milky substance to it. The 2000 sighting lasted 5 minutes and the craft was also next to our car on a highway and very low. I looked away and when I looked back it was gone! Can anyone please tell me what this is?

I saw one on May 5th, 2012. We've had a lot of different types of sightings here in Los angeles since Jan 2012. I guess there are 2 types of triangles. There's the Triangular object with the red light underneath. I heard that might be our military (see Aurora project-US government). Then there is the other flying V object. This is a V shaped UFO, not triangle, seen in Phoenix in 1997 by 10,000 people. This one is probably ET. I live south of the LAX airport and was on my balcony at 9 pm. While looking up at the stars, a cloaked V shaped (not triangle) was seemingly floating over my balcony at the same distance as a plane. It was totally silient and totally black but I could see the outline and the outline of the five lights total running along the "v". These were blacked out but a dark grey color. Nothing was on, no lights. It was cloaked. I even saw a "wobble" over the craft like looking at it through water. It took about 5 minutes to totally get out of my view. A few people posted on MUFOn that they saw it too. Not sure what this means to us though. Are they touring? surveying? Bored, lol? I guess more to come on this issue!

I saw one just outside of Washington, D.C. in a suburban neighborhood in the middle of the night. It was so close I could have thrown a stone and hit it. It was flat black in color, triangular in shape, about 300' on a side and moving very slowly. It wasn't flying in the conventional sense of the word, it was just sliding through the air about as fast as a person walks, totally silent. It had a low light on each corner and no visible seams or openings. The technology employed is nothing we have on this world so the only conclusion I can come to is it is other-worldly. I would tell you more but I don't know anymore.

I saw one of these about 2-3 weeks ago an I live in Central Valley of California. It was HUGE and was a perfect black triangle. I got off work at my job at Costco and arrives home at about 10:45 pm. The object was massive and black with a light at each point. The front one blinked like on any regulation aircraft. It was flying VERY low an VERY slow. It made almost no noise except for a high pitch electric motor like sound, not the usual jet engine noise. It was pretty scary at first, but at the same time I couldn't turn away and I watched it for about 5 minutes as it cruised off into the distance. It was the largest aircraft I have ever seen though, and oddly enough I told this story to a co worker last night and he said he saw the same thing when he lived in San Jose about 10years ago but this object was incredibly loud. He said the object he saw was incredibly large as well.
