Separating Fact from Fiction: Project Silver Bug, the Military and Reverse Engineering

There has been quite a bit of fervor on the internet recently regarding the release of information pertaining to the US Air Force's attempt at creating a 'flying saucer' or 'UFO' as some articles have dubbed it. I would like to set a few things straight for the record about the whole "Project Silverbug" story. For starters, this is not a 'new' story at all even though it's being touted as such. A declassified version of the "Joint ATIC-WADC Report on Project Silver Bug" from February 15, 1955 was actually posted on the CUFON website in 1998 which included diagrams, design concepts and proposed specifications for a several different craft configurations. Even Wired's Dangerroom picked up the story of "Project 1794" and ran with it like it was brand new information.

First, some brief background on the Avro Canada project...

It was born in the Cold War era as a possible way of hiding high performance aircraft from Russian A-bombs, but it remains shrouded in mystery. The only mention the Air Force makes of that project is in The Report on Project Silver Bug, written in 1955 by the Air Technical Intelligence Center and Wright Air Development Center,  It proposed the mounting of a research and development project into the building of a jet-propelled flying saucer, capable of both vertical takeoff and landing along with supersonic speeds up to 1,500 mph. If successful, the craft would have been based underground, thus avoiding the need for long runways and easily-distinguished bases which would have been easily taken out by a single nuclear bomb or missile warhead.  More here...

There were quite a few configurations proposed by the Avro Canada company, but only one of them ever made it to the actual working prototype phase, and that was the "Avrocar" It famously went on to become the joke that's forever been associated with the Silver Bug project.

But the ultimate goal was to build a VTOL saucer shaped craft capable of Mach 2+ using conventional jet engines arranged in a radial pattern.

In 1954, a memo was fired off to CIA department heads demanding intelligence on new 'saucer-like' flying machines being developed by Britain and Canada. So began the race to develop the most unlikely weapon of the Cold War. The year was 1952 and the cold war was at full chill. Joe McCarthy's Un-American Activities Committee was looking for reds under beds, and UFO sightings were spreading like an epidemic across the United States. Even air-force pilots reported being pursued by flying saucers. The sense of dread was turning to frenzy and the CIA decided something had to be done. In one of his many memos on the subject, H Marshall Chadwell, the deputy head of the agency's Office of Scientific Intelligence, declared that "something was going on that must have immediate attention". He and others in the CIA were concerned that the Soviet Union was developing a secret weapon based on the "flying discs" the Nazis were rumoured to have constructed in the last months of the war.

Here's the second point I'd like to make: Project Silver Bug had almost nothing to do with a separate program of reverse-engineering of alien technology being conducted by the military in the US. Over the years the two have become intertwined with eachother and really they're apples and oranges. The key fact to remember here is that all of these designs were based upon conventional propulsion methods, nothing exotic. The VTOL designs were unique enough, but at the end of the day they were still jet powered.

Military Run Reverse Engineering Programs

The really interesting research was happening underground in places such as Area 51, Lockheed's Skunkworks, Dryden Flight Research Center and Wright Patterson AFB. This research involved the reverse engineering of 'foreign technology' obtained by the US government from a variety of sources, including but not limited to the Roswell wreckage. From this research came electrogravitic propulsion methods along with breakthroughs in the ionization of airframes to reduce and/or eliminate drag entirely. This was the truly exotic stuff that was never declassified, and never will be. All we have is deathbed testimony from multiple people who were intimately involved in such programs.

The reverse engineering programs being conducted by the military were highly compartmentalized "Umbra" level special access projects. No one person had all of the pieces of the puzzle, if you were working within the program you only knew what you needed to know to complete your specific job.

"Anti-gravitational research was going on. We know that there were some captured craft from 1947 in Roswell, they were real. And, yes, we really did get some technology from them. And, yes, we really did put it to work. We knew each other from what we call an unseen industry. We can term it black, deep black, or hidden. The knowledge I have of these technologies came from the craft that were captured here. I didn`t see the craft, nor did I see the bodies, but I certainly know some of the people that did. The bottomline is that as unique and ambitious as project Silver Bug was, it paled in comparison to the truly compartmentalized research project going on in the US in the decades following the cold war. Avro Canada's saucer fighters were a product of cold war fears, paranoia and was at least partially an attempt to put their company on the map with a joint US venture.

The technology that currently exists within today's classified black budget programs would almost certainly blow our collective minds. Every once in awhile something slips out of the darkness and escapes into the 'white world' and it's only a matter of time before we start to see some amazing things in the skies above us. The giant black triangles and boomerang shaped craft are just the tip of the iceberg...

TR6 "TELOS" Hypothetical Origin of the "Phoenix Boomerang" Craft

The TR6 “TELOS” is designed for use as a transatmospheric, low observable reconnaissance platform with global reach and a long loiter time over target. Employing active electromagnetic, electronic and visual camouflage it is able to penetrate all currently known defensive systems from transorbital height.

The TR6 utilizes five electrogravitic generators for propulsion and is considered a “VTOL” craft not needing a runway. The landing gear is strictly for maneuvering while on the ground. The wings fold for hangar stowage. Currently there are only a handful of hangars in the world that can accept the TR6, with most of them in the US.

The entire airframe acts as a multi-band communications relay capable of directly interfacing with all current US military satellite networks. The skin employs active visual camouflage using a ‘starfield’ lighting pattern along with other active stealth techniques. The TELOS platform is also capable of operating in space as well as docking with military space stations via a ventral docking hatch.

These are the facts about my visual encounter with the "Telos TR6".

I acquired my first telescope on 02/23/2012. 4 days later while setting up my telescope early in the evening I looked up in the sky and saw an amazing sight. I observed an "inverted flying wing" flying very high, very slowly and generating no discernable noise. Prior to that night I was not a believer in UFO's, but the sight was so amazing I was compelled to search for an answer to what I had seen that night. I searched high and low on the internet and in books for answers, but I could not find a single flying wing that kept the dimensions of what I saw that day, nor one that was inverted.

I came across your website recently and over the last few months I have read many of your articles. Then last week I saw the schematic and rendering of the "TR6 Telos". It had the exact proper dimensions, and with the speculation of "electrogravitic" flight, I thought that could explain how it flew so slowly, and "backwards".

Here are the details of that night:

My Location: (address withheld) Roseville, CA, In the backyard. See specific coordinates of exact location below.

Time: 6:52pm PST

Location of craft: SSE sky, approximately 60 degrees up in the sky, just under and to my right of Canis Majoris (Sirius). 

Trajectory of the craft: The craft was initially sighted heading out of the SSE, on a NNW heading and moved very slowly and appeared to be vey high in the sky. The craft was an earth tone, either grey or very light brown. It's apparent size was approximately 2.5"- 3" and it generated no detectable sound whatsoever. It flew as an inverted wing and appeared to defy physical laws of jet propulsion.

It travelled until it was almost over me, and then veered tightly to the SW, with minimal tilting of it's body, again defying jet propulsion laws. It moved extremely slow. It was as if it was gliding and ascending at the same time. As it began it's due west trajectory it flew for another minute and a half at which point I lost my visual. When I lost the craft it was headed towards Fiddyment Field, James Brother airport and what would have been possibly Yolo county.

Excellent information. I have a few more questions for you;

1) Did you notice any type of lighting configuration?

2) Could you hazard a guess as to it's approximate altitude or was it too difficult to tell due to the environmental conditions?

3) Being a boomerang/flying wing shape, would you say the angle sweep to the wings was a perfect 90 degree angle (like my TR6 illustration) or was it a wider sweep like the B-2 Spirit?

Looking at Google Earth I noticed that Roseville is about 35 miles due south of Beale AFB, which IF a TR program such as this existed--Beale would be in the top 2 or 3 bases in the country where it would operate from. My only hesitation is that there doesn't look to be a hangar quite large enough to stow something this big at Beale (even with folded wings), unless it's not quite as big as people describe it as being? People get excited in the moment of seeing something so strange and sometimes their sense of dimension and distance can be exaggerated.

Would you mind if I posted your firsthand description to the TR6 illustration page? I will of course withhold your name, location and any personal details. I think it would add to the posting to have an "eyewitness" account.

Some extra detail I remember, there appeared to be paneling. As if it wasn’t one solid piece. I understand as an amateur astronomer people often create details in their mind that can be seen in their eyes, but I remember that it didn’t seem like a solid piece of metal floating around. It looked real to me.

Here are the answers to your questions:

1.       There were no lights that I could see to my best recollection. I’ve tried hard to keep this within my memory. It was years ago, and the facts I have stated are definitely accurate. If I refrain from speaking definitely on this detail it’s only to make sure that every detail I’m giving is exactly accurate.

2.       The altitude was very hard to fathom. Usually I know how big an object is so I can tell how far it might be, or I can listen to its engine to gauge it’s distance by listening to the sound as it passes. I would have put it at approximately 1,000-3,000 feet high, and I was thinking the size estimate could be reduced or enlarged based upon those terms. Unfortunately I can’t do much better than 1,000-3,000 feet based off of what I saw.

3.       The angle of the wingspan was absolutely between 90 degrees and 110 degrees. It was not wider than that. I remember specifically because it looked almost like a perfect right angle.

I wish I could put together a computer model of the event so better estimates could be taken. I’m not that saavy… Nor do I have the tech.

Recently there has been a substantial amount of skeptical interest in what appears to be full disclosure from the Mexican government in regards to never before seen Mayan artifacts clearly depicting aliens and spacecraft. I immediately started to do some digging because on the surface this seemed almost too good to be true, and as Agent D and I always say--if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Check out this video first, then continue reading my report below...



As I began digging I came upon a website with some very clear photos of these "artifacts" which I will refer to them as from this point forward. I use this term lightly because without verification of the SOURCE of these artifacts and without any type of scientific analysis of their age, they could have very well been produced last year by a Mexican artisan. We'll circle back around to this later...

The second aspect to this story is the strange case of the documentary filmmakers involved; Raul Julia-Levy and the investor funding the film, Elisabeth Thieriot. The documentary itself is the real deal, and interestingly enough it was even picked up by mainstream news media.

The information -- protected for 80 years -- is expected to reveal Mayan beliefs in future catastrophes and wisdom characterized as "shocking," producer Raul Julia-Levy, son of actor Raul Julia, told TheWrap. The Mexican government is releasing state-held secrets about the end of the Mayan calendar  to the makers of a documentary, "Revelations of the Mayans 2012 and Beyond," TheWrap has learned. According to its eager-to-give-a-quote producer Raul Julia-Levy, the 3D documentary will be a watershed moment in human history.  He says it will reveal, for the first time, proof of extraterrestrial contact.  It’ll show proof that aliens and ancient humans mixed, including a 3000-year-old landing pad for flying saucers and an underwater Mayan city (which Julia-Levy helpfully clarifies as “a city that was built under water, and not a sunken city”). Okay, so far this looks pretty good, right?

It starts as most typical UFO-conspiracy-plot yarns do.  The producers say pieces of the puzzle have been found over the last century – but governments suppressed this dangerous knowledge.  First the British government hid hints.  Then the Americans.  Possibly the popes were in on the game too – Julia-Levy claims that, earlier this year, an official Vatican spokesman got in touch with him and demanded a private meeting. According to Julia-Levy, the Mexican government was complicit in keeping these secrets for the past 80 years.  But he claims that former President Vincente Fox (a friend of his famous family – note the “Raul Julia” part of his name) personally let him in on this secret.  Fox then spent four years lobbying current President Felipe Calderon to let Julia-Levy reveal the truth to the public.  He claims that higher-ups in the Mexican and Guatemalan governments, prominent archaeologists, and the Council of Mayan Elders (who are going to reveal their 3,750-year-old secret book for the first time) are all coming forward.  Also – that the preeminent scholar of the universe Stephen Hawking (aka “the wheelchair guy with that robot voice thing”) is working with them on the film and is on board with the theories.  (source)

But apparently Raul Julia-Levy isn't who he claims to be, and here's where things start to take a turn for the weird...

It turns out that Raul Julia-Levy – invariably described by the press as “the son of the late actor Raul Julia” – may only be pretending to have that famous father. According to a 2005 article in the New York Times, Raul Julia’s widow was distraught about a con man by the name of Salvador Alba Fuentes going around telling everyone his name was “Raul Julia-Levy.”  She said Julia-Levy/Fuentes was pretending to a prominent parentage to get his own producing career going in LA. Raul Julia-Levy, for his part, retorted that he WAS the result of a brief, sordid fling between the famous actor and his mother – but that his mother doesn’t want to talk about it.

On his IMDB page, Julia-Levy is listed as an actor, producer and writer. Among his credits is a listing for the 2006 movie The Champagne Gang, on which he is credited as an actor and associate producer under the name Raul Julia Jr. The bio says it was written by “LH Vaughnes, Publicist,” but a search did not immediately turn up anyone by that name with a publicity firm.

Now let's add a multi-million dollar lawsuit to the mix!

In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Thieriot charges that she financed a documentary titled Revelations of the Mayans: 2012 and Beyond, in partnership with Raul Julia-Levy, but that she had to shut the production in Mexico down after he misused rented equipment and enlisted the local authorities to try and “steal the footage, equipment and documentary” from her. 

Her suit claims that in retaliation, Julia-Levy falsely accused Thieriot of fleeing Mexico in violation of a government order, illegally filming on federal ground in Mexico and stealing footage and equipment related to the documentary; all of which she says is completely false. (source)


So why would a documentary filmmaker attempt to 'steal' footage and equipment from the person who is personally financing the entire operation in the first place? Stranger still, why would he lie about it and then go to the local authorities to file an official complaint? What are we missing here?

Thieriot, who says she is the ex-wife of the former publisher of The San Francisco Chronicle, describes herself as a “well respected philanthropist” and author.

“This perversion not only defames and severely damages a respected, innocent and decent human being,” says the lawsuit, “it creates a fraud on the public."

Movie producer Raul Julia-Levy claims in court that philanthropist Elisabeth Thieriot failed to pony up the $500,000 she promised for the movie "Revelations of the Mayans 2012 and Beyond," that she transferred money from the production account to her own, "absconded with the footage," "usurped (his) creative control over the project," and interfered with his contract. Julia-Levy's lawsuit this week comes a month after Thieriot sued the entertainment website The Wrap, which published an article about her, allegedly based on information provided by Julia-Levy. Thieriot was and is a managing member and "the investment member" of R & E Productions LLC, which was formed to make and distribute the movie, the complaint states. Julia-Levy claims that he and Thieriot agreed in February this year to make the movie, which the Superior Court complaint calls a documentary. (source)

Hmmmmmm. SOMEbody isn't telling the whole story here and it's still difficult to determine who. Thieriot may indeed be a 'philanthropist' but she may also be the one person perfectly positioned to shut down a documentary that certain people in our government don't want to see the light of day. It's no secret that the US government isn't keen on the open policy of the Mexican government. Imagine for a moment that Thieriot is approached secretly by some 3-letter agency and asked to put the kabash on the whole operation. If she does it instead of them it won't look suspicious. Throw a libel lawsuit in for good measure and the whole thing starts to look like just another garden variety Hollywood lawsuit, right? Right.

But lets circle back to the artifacts themselves and this guy Nassim Haramein who is shown describing these artifacts in the video. From what I can tell, Nassim is the real deal.

In the past 10 years, Haramein has directed research teams of physicists, electrical engineers, mathematicians and other scientists in exploring the various aspects of unification principles and their implications in our world today . He has founded a non-profit organization, the Resonance Project Foundation, where, as the Director of Research, he continues in developing a research park in Hawai’i where science, sustainability, and advanced technology come together to generate viable solutions for our planet’s current energy crisis. BIG QUESTIONS REMAIN...

What I CANNOT determine is the where, when and why behind this video. Where was the presentation made? When was it presented? And why? I am pretty well informed of Ufology conferences worldwide and I attend quite a few (incognito, of course) and yet this one remains a mystery to me. More importantly, what was the original SOURCE of these artifacts? There are many photos of these artifacts available on the web but they all had to originate from an original source. Was that source the Mexican government? In my digging I have yet to find any references to these photos on any official Mexican channel, government or otherwise. This raises a red flag. Photos are just that--photos. NOT solid proof. I could fake Mayan artifacts in Photoshop all day long and nobody could tell the difference. In fact, I could hire (very cheaply) a Mexican artisan to produce said artifacts very easily. So some photos and a lecture from a physicist does not make this the real deal. Even if we could physically touch and hold these artifacts it STILL doesn't prove anything unless we can scientifically put an age on each of them. This has been the primary reason The Object Report hasn't jumped all over this topic. Is it compelling? Certainly. Do some big important questions still remain? Absolutely.

Agent D and myself will continue to investigate this subject. If it turns out to be 100% true, then this will most certainly be the biggest step toward full disclosure that our species has seen so far. Until then, we will remain skeptically interested while we continue to dig for the truth.
